About Us

Pivot Dance Studio is a community of friendly, supportive and fun people who connect through Latin dancing. We see dancing as a great way to meet people, make new friends and learn a new skill.

Our favourite part of teaching is watching the students develop new skills and becoming confident on the dancefloor. In some cases, compete or shine on the international world stage. We teach everyone from beginner to performance level in Salsa & Bachata and have options of private or group settings.

We are located in Mississauga and Oakville, Canada. Come along to one of our classes and try something new. We look forward to meeting you.

Rebecca Pollard:

Fusing love for all dance styles, Rebecca is known for her body movement and approachable personality. Her classes focus on strength and fluidity, body appreciation and expression. She challenges her students on a weekly basis while incorporating laughter and fun in every class.

Having danced since she was 5 and teaching for over 12 years, Rebecca has been involved in all sorts of genres including Jazz, Contemporary, Bollywood, Hip Hop, Samba, Salsa and Bachata. She has toured around the world performing, competing and teaching Salsa and Bachata in Australia, New Zealand, USA, Croatia, Belgium, Ireland, Holland, Canada and the UK.

In late 2016 Rebecca partnered with Efren to launch Pivot Dance School. The goal: build an inclusive and friendly community for dancers of all levels to connect and encourage each other as they reach their dancing ambitions.

Currently Rebecca teaches Salsa and Bachata group and private classes to students of all levels, from beginners to advanced dancers competing on the World Stage. Additionally, she coaches and creates choreography for the Pivot Advanced Ladies Dance Team, formed in 2016.

Efren Castillo:

Is a passionate Dance Instructor and Entrepreneur based in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton area. Born in Toronto and raised in Ecuador, his unwavering passion for dancing began when he was just five years old, but it was his love of music that truly started it all. In fact, the Latin rhythm has deeply influenced Efren since listening to his father’s collection of Fania LPs, which further fueled his drive to interpret music through dance.

Throughout his creative career, Efren has trained with some of the most prominent dancers worldwide, including Tito & Tamara, Bill & Katie, and Nelson Flores. He has also performed in a multitude of well-known dance congresses across the globe. The moment he first started being a dance instructor a decade ago, Efren’s primary mission has been to help others utilize dance as a method of music-infused self-expression.

During his free time, Efren enjoys DJing and dog training. He also has an avid interest in technology, photography, and the history of music, but music is and will forever be his number one.

Vicken Serkis
